Purchased from Amazon and I have now had my S12 for one week. It does everything I want it to (I don’t play games so the video card is of no consequence) and the appearance, quality and battery life are great.

I got over 4 hours from the battery last week whilst downloading the security updates from Microsoft for XP Home so the screen was lit most of the time. The 6 cell battery fits neatly under the unit across the back, acting as a slightly raised up stand.

The Wi-Fi facility is more sensitive than on my Toshiba A60 laptop which uses a plug in BT Voyager PCMIA Card, so I can now operate this machine reliably from my lounge, through two solid walls and at a distance of about 45 feet from my modem which is on the same level. I couldn’t do that reliably with the Toshiba.

The S12 Ideapad boots up quickly and MS Office 2007 is running like a dream. The camera, soundcard etc all worked perfectly straight out of the box, so no set up was needed at all. Skype was running immediately after download once my account details were entered. The screen is crystal clear and the sound quality for a machine of this size is superb.

Two minor criticism’s – the idents on the Fn keys are quite faint – this is common I believe with most netbooks, so if the light is not good it is hard to see what the key function is. The hard drive is slated as being 160 Gb – yes it is, but it is partitioned with the recovery system on Drive D, which also has 29 Gb of free space. So you get 29 GB on Drive D and 111 Gb on Drive C.

I am delighted with this notebook, it proved to be very good value for a 12″. The choice is limited in 12″ screen models however, and I compared with the Samsung NC20 and Packard Bell DOT before I settled on the S12 Ideapad.

To sum up – for quality of build, styling and ergonomics I would buy a Lenovo model again without doubt!

this product is not the long awaited S12 netbook of gadget blogs everywhere. Trading on the unit’s reputation they have sent it out on sale without the long-awaited ION graphics module, crippling its performance to the same level as any other netbook! This makes it very overpriced for what it is!

    Buyer Beware!
