This product is ideal for keeping your slightly old laptop useable. These older laptops have a lot of life still in them for certain more basic uses provided they have a rewriter. In my case it was a Dell Latitude D610 which has no rewriter. It can be a cheaper option than lashing out on a new laptop which has hundreds of specialist uses that you will never use. It is the case that Word may be the only software you ever use!

I needed an external CD/DSD Writer for occasional use with my Samsung NC10 netbook with Windows XP. Having read the reviews, this model seemed best value for money. It arrived in simple packaging with required cables.
Connecting using supplied USB cable worked straight away, and, just as advertised, no drivers were required. I’ve since burned both CDs and DVDs using iTunes for CDs and VideoRedo for DVDs and all worked correctly. It’s no the fastest DVD writer but then it works from the USB cable with no additional power required.
And it’s small enough to be portable for use alongside a small netbook.

Never seen one this small. Have only used it a few times to make some restore disks for a net top but works well. Occasionally wants unplugging and plugging in then will reappear.
Can be used totally portable as can be mains or bus (usb) powered.

This was bought to use with the Acer Aspire one I bought at the same time. I could not play any DVDs on it until a program had been downloaded from the internet which my son did for me as my PC was too slow and old to do it! It now plays and writes DVDs, no problem according to my son.
